Campyloneurum amphostenon (Kunze ex Klotzsch) Fée, Mém. Foug. View in CoL 5[Gen. Filic.]: 258. 1852.
= Polypodium amphostenon Kunze ex Klotzsch, Linnaea View in CoL 20: 399. 1847.
= Polypodium leuconeuron (Fée) Christ var. latifolium Rosenst., Repert. View in CoL Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 11: 58. 1912.
Range: —Antilles; southern Florida, Mexico to Venezuela and Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC).
Ecology: —Very common, saxicolous or epiphyte; 2100–3500 m.
Notes: —This species forms a complex with C. asplundii , C. lorentzii , C. densifolium , and C. solutum . Two varieties have been recognized within C. amphostenon on the basis of cellular arrangement in the rhizome scales ( var. amphostenon with straight cell walls and all cells along main axes; and var. irregulare with irregular cell walls and cells arranged in different directions) ( León 1993). There are many intermediate conditions for this character, and these varieties are not recognized in this treatment. Some populations of C. amphostenon growing above 2500 m in open, exposed areas have leaves more closely placed, laminae with revolute margins, and rhizome scales showing both regular and irregular cellular arrangement.
