Zeasampa nunni Nomura and Leschen View in CoL , new species ( Figs. 18B View Fig , 21 View Fig , 22 View Fig )

Description. Male. Body length 2.14–2.38 mm, width 0.68–0.70 mm, medium-sized, elongate, color reddish brown, strongly shiny ( Fig. 18B View Fig ). Head transverse, thick, widest at just behind antennal base; clypeus very short, invisible in dorsal view; frons strongly elevated between antennal bases, strongly flattened anteriorly, densely covered with short, suberect setae; vertex almost flat, with pair of small dorsal tentorial pits; postgenae very large, rounded ( Fig. 21B View Fig ). Eyes very small, almost flat, invisible in dorsal view, each located just behind antennal base, composed of 6–7 facets ( Fig. 21B View Fig ). Antennae 0.54–0.60 mm in length, reaching base of elytra, long and slender; antennomere I very large, thickened dorso-ventrally, flattened on inner side, densely covered with coarse punctures; II about as long as wide, subcylindrical; III–VI each transverse, subcylindrical; VII–XI forming club, subequal in width; VII–VIII subequal in length, each about as long as wide; IX longer than VIII, slightly thickened distally; X slightly shorter than IX, subcylindrical; XI largest, about as long as IX + X, subcylindrical in basal half, subconical in apical half, relative length (width) of each antennomere from base to apex to width of antennomere I: 1.9 (1.0); 0.8 (0.8); 0.4 (0.7); 0.4 (0.8); 0.5 (0.8); 0.5 (0.8); 0.6 (0.8); 0.7 (0.7); 0.8 (0.9); 0.8 (0.9); 2.1 (1.1). Maxillary palpi short, elongate, each about as long as antennal scape; palpomere I very short, subcylindrical; II elongate, thickened distally; III short, slightly longer than wide; IV largest, about as long as basal 3 palpomeres, subcylindrical ( Fig. 21B View Fig ).

Pronotum about as long as head, narrower than head, slightly longer than wide, rounded on lateral sides, weakly convex, very smooth dorsally, very sparsely covered with short pubescence, with pair of lateral foveae near basal 1/3 ( Fig. 21A View Fig ). Metaventrite very large, gently convex, sparsely covered with minute pubescence. Elytra about as long as head and pronotum combined, wider than long, trapezoidal, weakly broadened posteriad, each elytron feebly flattened dorsally, very smooth, very sparsely covered with minute pubescence, with complete adsutural sulcus, without basal foveae. Legs long, slender.

Abdomen about as long as elytra, slightly narrower than elytra, subparallel-sided, rounded posteriorly; segments III–VII subequal in length, each transverse; IV–VI subequal in width, each with pair of narrow, subparallel-sided paratergites; tergite VIII transverse and triangular, with 6 large setae; sternite VIII transverse, with large arcuate emargination on posterior margin; tergite IX divided into pair of apically acute sclerites; sternite IX rounded and densely setose at posterior part ( Fig. 22C View Fig ). Male genitalia weakly sclerotized; median lobe bulbous at base, narrowed toward apex; parameres paired, large and lamellar, asymmetrical ( Fig. 22D, E View Fig ).

Female. Body length 2.18–2.32 mm, width 0.68–0.70 mm, antennae 0.88–0.96 mm in length. Similar to male in general structure but separable by slender and smaller antennomere I.

Remarks. This species is easily distinguished from other Euplectitae by the characters mentioned above. Additional material from Coromandel and Auckland may represent a new species, but additional material is required for dissection.
