This endemic species was described from specimens collected in Queensland (Wongabel) from a species of mistletoe ( Loranthus sp. ) ( Schedl 1953). Zimmerman (1992) has photographs of dorsal and lateral views. (It may be noted that the references under this species in Wood and Bright (1992) to ‘‘ Browne 1968 b:720’’ refer in fact to Xylosandrus abruptoides (Schedl) , a species which is now considered to be a synonym of Xylosandrus morigerus (Blandford) .) We have examined paralectotypes in NHML, and more than 80 specimens in QMB and RAB. All were collected in North and Northeast Queensland between 15 ° 43 9 S and 19 ° 07 9 S, and 145 ° 17E and 146 ° 23 9 E, at altitudes from 650 m – 1,360 m, the majority at 1,000 m or above. The species seems to be confined to the remnants of the montane rainforest. No further host records are available, but, like most other ambrosia beetles, the species probably normally breeds in a wide variety of dead and dying trees, and is unlikely to be confined to Loranthus .
