Xylocopa (Notoxylocopa) tabaniformis orpifex Smith, 1854 View in CoL

[ Syntype: NHMUK; ♂ California, USA]

The populations of this species from the BCP belong to the subspecies currently known as Xylocopa tabaniformis orpifex . However, it is possible that this subspecies should be considered as a separate species. The BBPT collected this species in the Coastal Sage Matorral , Chaparral , Baja California Mountains and Gulf Coast (12 ♂, 3 ♀). This species is present throughout the BCP, except in the Succulent Coastal Matorral (Supplementary material 1), which may be an artifact of limited sampling effort. Voucher specimens are in MABC, and ECOAB. See fig. 152 .
