Varanus flavescens (Hardwicke and Gray 1827) View in CoL :
This species was frequently encountered in the buffer zone around the PNP and in agricultural lands outside the park boundary. It is a legally protected varanid of Nepal which has been accorded the highest degree of protection in Schedule-I under the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1973. The species is facing severe threat due to illegal hunting for its flesh and skin. The skin of varanids is used for making musical instruments by local communities.
