COMMON NAME (S): Veined Ermine.
SYNONYM(S): Aloa simplex Walker, 1855a ; Saenura alba Wallengren, 1860 ; Spilarctia puella Druce, 1898 .
IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE).
DISTRIBUTION: Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia , South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Lusaka , in Lusaka Province; Chipata and Petauke, in Eastern Province.
LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): A Passifloraceae species called Passiflora quadrangularis L. is a host plant of the taxon in South Africa
( Fawcett 1901), while Pinhey (1975) reported a yet to be identified Asteraceae species (i.e. Tagetes sp. ) as a host plant in unnamed African country or countries. The following are reported as larval foodplants of the taxon: one Amaryllidaceae species ( Hippeastrum sp. ), five Asteraceae species ( Aster sp. , Cosmos sp. , Zinnia sp. , Tagetes minuta L. and T. erecta L.), one Colchicaceae species ( Gloriosa superba L. [Climbing lily, creeping lily, tiger claw, fire lily or gloriosa lily,.]), one Moraceae species ( Morus sp. ), one Nyctaginaceae species ( Boerhavia sp. ) and two species of passiom plant, passion flowers or passion vines namely, Passiflora edulis Sims and P. quadrangularis L. ( African Moths 2019).
