Unio bruguierianus Bourguignat, 1853

Bourguignat (1853: 78) listed the type locality for Unio bruguierianus as “dans les cours d’eau des environs de Smyrne, en Anatolie”. U. bruguierianus is replacement name for Unio orientalis Bourguignat 1852 non Lea, 1840. It is a primary junior homonym. The type locality was published as “circa Joppitarum urbem, in rivulis, habitat” [Joppa, Israel]. Note that the type locality of the replacement name takes the type locality of the original preoccupied name, not a new name (ICZN, Article 60). Annandale (1918) identified Unio ciconius Kobelt, 1912 as occurring in Iraq, but today it is recognized as a junior synonym of U. bruguierianus . Pallary (1939) recognized Unio diarbekirianus Kobelt, 1912 , which is today considered a junior synonym of U. bruguierianus . Lopes-Lima et al. (2021) recognized U. bruguierianus as part of the upper Tigris-Euphrates River Basin fauna.
