Tydeus manoi sp. nov. Silva, Rocha & Ferla
( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 A–F)
Female (n = 2). Dimensions: length of idiosoma 425 423(421–425) and width 325 326(325–327).
Dorsum ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 A)—Prodorsum recurved, 12 pairs of slightly serrated dorsal setae, trichobothrium whip-like, smooth. Setal measurements as follows: ro 73 74 (73–75), la 65 65, ex 73 72 (70–73), c1 75 77 (75–78), c2 73 73 (73–75), d1 75 78 (75–80), e1 78 79 (78–80), f1 75 77 (75–79), f2 78 75 (72–78), h1 75 74 (72–75), h2 75 77 (75–78), ps1 50 54 (50–57). Setae ps1 slightly serrated. Body covered with “basketweave” type patterning; protuberance with reticulations on distal part.
Venter ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 B)—Anogenital area with six pairs of genital, four pairs of aggenital and ps 2 15 15 smooth in anal region. Epimeral formula: 3-1-4-2.
Gnathosoma ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 C)— Gnathosoma prominent. Setal pattern of palp (tarsus –genu): 5-2-2. Palp tarsus with seta p' ζ T-shaped distally. Cheliceral stilettos length 7 7; length of palp 50 53 (50–55).
Legs ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 D–F)—Length of legs I–IV as follows: leg I 155 157 (155–160), leg II 120 126 (120–129), leg III 140 143 (140–145) and leg IV 140 143 (140–145). All legs with two claws and a hairy empodium, empodial hooks absent. Solenidion (ωI) longer than half width of tarsus and (ωII) very short on tarsus I. Tibia II with solenidion (ω). Leg setal formulae as follows (tarsus—trochanter): Leg I: 8 (1ω)-3(1k)-3-3-1; Leg II: 6(1ω)-2-2-3-0; Leg III: 5-2-1-1-0; Leg IV: 5-2-1-1-0.
Male: Not found.
Differential diagnosis. This new species resembles Tydeus lolitae ( Baker, 1965) , Tydeus maculatus ( Momen & Lundqvist, 1996) and Tydeus rafalskii ( Kaźmierski, 1997) by having the “basketweave”- type dorsal ornamentation (i.e. body covered with granulations). Tydeus lolitae differs from the new species by having smooth, lanceolate dorsal setae that do not reach to the base of the setae next behind and setae p' ζ T-shaped distally. Tydeus maculatus and T. rafalskii differ from Tydeus manoi sp. nov. by having most dorsal setae spatulate.
Etymology. The new species was named in honor of Manoel Guedes Corrêa Gondim Jr., commonly recognized by the nickname “Mano”, an eminent Brazilian Acarologist.
Material examined. Brazil: Holotype female collected from Plantago tomentosa L., growing in vineyard (Chardonnay variety), Candiota County, State of Rio Grande do Sul, 21/VI/2007, coll. Klock, C.L. One paratype female, same data as holotype. Holotype deposited at Entomologia, Fitopatologia e Zoologia Agrícola Department, Escola Superior de Agricultura “Luiz de Queiroz” ( ESALQ), paratype deposited at Universidade de São Paulo, Piracicaba, São Paulo State, Brazil.
