Turbonilla gracilis var. scalariformis Bellini, 1902a: 108 View in CoL
Type locality: Capri Island (Naples, Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy) .
Original description: “giri più convessi e più staccati” [more convex and detached whorls —with respect to Turbonilla acuta (Donovan, 1804) , reported as Turbonilla gracilis Phil. ].
Remarks: having been instituted on the basis of insignificant morphological characteristics, we rank it infrasubspecific, and thus not available ( ICZN 2012: Art. 10.2, 45 .5, 45.6, glossary). This saves Turbonilla scalariformis Thiele, 1930 , a taxon described from Oyster Harbour, Albany ( Australia) ( Thiele 1930). Reported again by Bellini (1929a) as a variety of Turbonilla delicata Monterosato. Taking into account the complex taxonomy of the genus Turbonilla Risso, 1826 , as well as the poor description, the absence of figures attached to its original description, and the fact that it may fit several (not even congeneric) Mediterranean taxa, we are not able to understand what Bellini (1902a) actually described.
