Triplocania cantatis View in CoL n. sp.

( Figs 93–104 View FIGURES 93 – 98 View FIGURES 99 – 104 )

Diagnosis. Central sclerite of hypandrium anteriorly convex; posterior median process straight, bilobed distally ( Fig. 96 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ); phallosome with mesal-sclerite W-shaped ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ). Anterior pair of endophallic sclerites with outer arms stout, bow-shaped, and inner arms stout, straight, sausage shaped; posterior pair of endophallic sclerites slender, distally with short acuminate processes. Related to T. bubuae n. sp., T. garciamarquezi n. sp., T. pericosensis n. sp., and T. yanacona n. sp., but it differs from them by the pattern of wing pigmentation, and details of the morphology of the hypandrium ( Fig. 96 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ) and phallosome, particularly of the endophallic sclerites ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ). IX sternum almost quadrate, with a well defined oval anterior area, and small rounded areas on postero-lateral corners ( Fig. 103 View FIGURES 99 – 104 ).

Male. Color (in 80% ethanol). Body brown, with dark brown areas as indicated below. Head dark brown, vertex cream, with brown spots ( Fig. 95 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ). Compound eyes ochre, ocelli hyaline, with ochre centripetal crescents. Postclypeus with thin converging bands dark brown, interspersed with each other; genae and postgenae pale brown. Antenna pale brown. Maxillary palps brown, Mx4 with apical third dark brown. Tergal lobes of meso- and metathorax dark brown, with cream or pale brown spots; pleura brown, with some cream spots. Legs pale brown, coxae with small brown spot proximally and distally; wings almost hyaline, pattern as illustrated ( Figs 93 and 94 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ). Abdomen pale brown, with abundant dark brown spots; hypandrium and phallosome dark brown; epiproct and paraprocts pale brawn, with dark brown subcuticular spots.

Morphology. As in diagnosis, plus the following: Head ( Fig. 95 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ): H/MxW: 1.56; H/D: 2.68; IO/MxW: 0.71, MxW/IO: 2.09. Vertex slightly above the level of the compound eyes. Outer cusp of lacinial tips broad, with five denticles. Mx4/Mx2: 1.17. Forewings ( Fig. 93 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ): L/W: 2.43. Pterostigma: lp/wp: 4.14. Areola postica elongated: la/ ha: 1.87, distal part of Cu1a concave. Hindwings ( Fig. 94 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ): l/p: 2.87. Hypandrium ( Fig. 96 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ), side sclerites elongate, wider in the middlew. Phallosome ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ), V-shaped anteriorly, side struts slender, fused distally to the external parameres, these membranous, wide, bearing pores distally, outer border sclerotized ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ). Endophallic sclerites ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ). Paraprocts broadly triangular ( Fig. 97 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ), posteriorly rounded, setae as illustrated; sensory fields with 26 trichobothria on basal rosettes. Epiproct semioval, with broad base, posteriorly broadly rounded, setae as illustrated ( Fig. 97 View FIGURES 93 – 98 ).
