Genitalia ( Fig. 30 View FIGS 29–31 ). Crista sacculi of valva distally somewhat enlarged, basad bent part narrow and short; vesica dorso-proximally with two strong sclerotized, closely parallel arranged cornuti with several short thorns. Female unknown.
Variation. In the fresh specimens, the black scaling of the forewings and hindlegs is somewhat more extensive and the forewing discal spot slightly narrower than in the holotype.
Diagnosis. Tipulamima grandidieri is unmistakable and easily identified by the dorsally rufous and black ventrally mainly red coloration of the body, the large transparent areas of the wings and the black margins, orange veins with black tips and orange discal spots.
