Type material. Holotype: 3, “mus. Westerm.”, “ Type. Bengal. Juli 1808. Setosus Wied”. ( ZMUC).
Additional material examined. Here we have listed about 400 specimens of T. setosus that were examined in the present work. We excluded only the specimens with a label that was considered too generic (see remarks for further information). The number of individuals for each locality is given within brackets.

Diagnosis. The species can be easily separated from the other Oriental species due to the surface of the head shiny and deeply punctate, and the metasternal disc flat.
Distribution. Pakistan, India, Buthan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, China, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia.
Literature. Copris setosus . Wiedemann 1823:19. Ixodina setosa . Motschulsky 1863:459. Drepanocerus setosus . Tibiodrepanus setosus . Krikken 2009:21, Sabu et al. 2011:35.
Remarks. The species was described by Wiedemann (1823) in the genus Copris , and was then transferred to the genus Ixodina by Motschulsky (1863:459, as Ixodina setosa ). Soon afterwards it was transferred to the genus Drepanocerus by Harold (1869). Recently, Krikken (2009) included it in the genus Tibiodrepanus . Materials with localities that were too generic were not included in the distribution list (e.g., one specimen labeled from “ India ” (MTD) or thirty specimens from “ Ceylon ”, various museums). Specimens from various collections did not have the locality labels, thus were not included here.
