Protologue citation:—“ Istria: In ditione litorali; in agro Tergestino in arenosis supra S. Giovanni prope Tergestum; 200 mt s.m.”.
Taxonomic notes:— Thymus istriacus is a heterotypic synonym of Th. pulegioides Linnaeus (1753: 592) var. pulegioides . For the taxonomic treatment of the Thymus pulegioides species complex see Bartolucci et al. (2013).
