Material. 73: 1♀, L'Orgère, Rosa sp. , e.l. 9.v.1975, RB ( RB) ; TM, 1♀, Pralognanla Vanoise, 1500 m, 20.viii.1979, Sanguisorba minor , e.l. 25.vii.1980, EvN .
Remarks. A very common species on roses both in gardens and in nature. Unfortunately, the leafmines cannot always be separated with certainty from those of S. centifoliella and, therefore, probably some of the records may be wrong. We therefore refrain from giving the many records (from 07, 12, 26, 55, 69) we have of mines and larvae on Rosa , which may belong to this or the following species. The references from Corsica are also uncertain because they are based on leafmines; they might also refer to the following species or S. rolandi . Mines on Sanguisorba are in addition difficult to separate from those of S. thuringiaca and S. poterii (see excluded species); we reared one female from this host.
