We collected several males, females, and pupae of Stictochironomus marmoreus ( Townes, 1945) in a Yukon River delta distributary using a drift net in mid-July.This is a new faunistic record for Alaska. O’Brien et al. (1997) collected Stictochironomus rosenschoeldi (Zetterstedt, 1838) larvae from Toolik Lake, where it was a dominant chironomid species in the macrophytes. Hershey (1985) collected pupae from Toolik Lake from mid-July through mid-August and estimated a four-year life cycle for the species. We collected Stictochironomus sticticus (Fabricius, 1781) adults from Auke Lake in mid-August, representing a new faunistic record for Alaska. Watson et al. (1966) collected Stictochironomus unguiculatus (Malloch, 1934) adults around the Ogotoruk Creek area in the Cape Thompson Area. Kaufman et al. (2012) collected Stictochironomus larvae from Lone Spruce Pond and Lougheed et al. (2011) from tundra ponds near Utqiagvik. We commonly encountered Stictochironomus larvae in Arctic streams and lakes. We have a few records from Southeast Alaska streams, as well as one record from the Yukon River in the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve. Stictochironomus larvae typically inhabit sand sediments of streams, rivers, and lakes ( Epler 2001). Stictochironomus larvae in Arctic regions overwinter in sealed cocoons ( Danks, 1971).
