Subfamily Stenostygninae Roewer, 1913 View in CoL
Genus Manahunca Šilhavý, 1973 View in CoL
Manahunca Šilhavý 1973: 140 View in CoL (type species Manahunca bielawskii Šilhavý, 1973 View in CoL , by original designation)
Emended diagnosis: Dorsal scutum almost rectangular. Divergent eye mounds with few small granules, located near sulcus I. Mesotergal areas and free tergites with tubercles only. Legs almost smooth, only covered by fine setiferous denticles. Pedipalps with tibia ectal IIIi (1<2=3>4), tibia mesal IIII (1<2=3=4), tarsus ectal IiIii (1=3>2=4=5) and tarsus mesal IiIii (1=3>2=4=5). Mesoproximal setiferous tubercle on the pedipalp tibia displaced almost ectally. Subsequent mesal setiferous tubercles widely separated from mesoproximal setiferous tubercle, letting a wide gap in the tubercle series. Males with a distal enlargement of metatarsus III, located mainly at the third quarter from the proximal portion of the segment. Swollen area of metatarsus III with wide and deep ventral groove (like a buttonhole), bearing conspicuous setae 1. Setal shafts basally striated and twisted, distally enlarged in the shape of a long paint brush (lanceolate). Setae longitudinally arranged in two alternating rows. Pores irregularly disposed around the base of setae. Tarsal count of leg I 6–9, leg II 11–16, legs III and IV 8–9. Penis large with a thin truncus and pars distalis enlargement at the distal third of truncus (cup-shaped). Capsula interna composed by an apically pointed stylus, lateroapically flattened and wide, flanked by two basally fused conductors. Conductors apically with a slen- der and acute ventral laminar projection. Truncus ventrally with a hook-like apical process and two apical pairs of setae. The apical-most pair of setae minute and bifurcated; the three subsequent ventrolateral pairs longer, foliar and acuminate.
Included species: Manahunca bielawskii Šilhavý, 1973 (type species); Manahunca cuevajibarae Avram, 1977 ; Manahunca turquino Alegre, Gainett & Giribet , new species; Manahunca matazon Alegre, Gainett & Giribet , new species.
Distribution: Eastern Cuba.
Remarks: Manahunca appears to be closely related to Caribbiantes Šilhavý, 1973 , on the basis of morphology, but it is clearly distinguished from the second genus by the presence of tubercles (rather than spines) on the mesotergal areas and free tergites, and by the longer legs. Regarding penial morphology, the capsula interna, is composed by an apically pointed stylus, lateroapically flattened and wide, flanked by two basally fused conductors—as in Caribbiantes . However, the conductors in Manahunca apically possess a slender and acute ventral laminar projection, and are not dilated lobes as in the case of Caribbiantes (A. Alegre, pers. obs.). The apical process of the truncus in Manahunca is hooked ventrally, while in Caribbiantes species it is just a mound (e.g., Šilhavý 1973; figures 56, 57).
