Stenogephyra parkeri View in CoL spec. nov.

( Figs. 10–11 View FIGURES 2 – 15 , 32–35 View FIGURES 32 – 35 , 44 View FIGURE 44 )

Etymology. This species is named for Frank D. Parker, an avid and productive collector of therevids.

Diagnosis. Stenogephyra parkeri spec. nov. is similar to S. dianeae spec. nov. and S. minuta in possessing two pairs of notopleural macrosetae, in lacking dorsocentral macrosetae, in having the katepisternum completely covered with silver pubescence, and in having vein M2 reaching the hind margin of the wing. It differs from S. dianeae spec. nov. in having the silver pubescence along eye margin not greatly expanded at level of antennal base and not reaching height of frontal ocellus ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 2 – 15 ); halters dark brown; and the male gonocoxite lacking a posteroventral projection in lateral view (as in Fig. 24). It differs from S. minuta in having the head glossy with a narrow band of silver pubescence along margin of eyes ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 2 – 15 ) which broadens ventrally below level of eyes.

Description of male. Variation (n=10). Body length 3.2–4.5, 3.7 mm. Head. Length 0.54–0.64, 0.58 mm. Eyes separated by distance about two times width of ocellar tubercle. Frons ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 2 – 15 ) dark reddish brown, glossy with silver pubescence along margin of eye; setae black. Antenna dark brown; antenna/head length 1.8–2.3, 2.0; scape length 0.12–0.20, 0.16 mm, width 0.10–0.12, 0.11 mm, length/width 1.0–1.7, 1.4, scape/pedicel length 1.5–2.9, 2.3, scape/flagellum width 0.8–1.0, 0.9, setae dark brown; pedicel length 0.06–0.08, 0.07 mm, width 0.08–0.11, 0.08 mm, length/width 0.7–1.2, 0.9, setae dark brown, short; flagellum length 0.84–1.06, 0.94 mm, width 0.12– 0.14, 0.12 mm, length/width 7.2–9.0, 7.7, flagellum/scape length 5.3–7.7, 6.1. Parafacial ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 2 – 15 ) dark reddish brown, glossy with silver pubescence laterally along margin of eye and expanding ventrally, setae black, elongate. Maxillary palpus pale white (apex occasionally brown); length 0.20–0.26, 0.24 mm, width 0.04–0.08, 0.06 mm, length/width 3.0–5.0, 4.1; setae dark brown, elongate. Gena ( Figs. 10–11 View FIGURES 2 – 15 ) broadly rounded, pubescence silver, dense; setae white, elongate. Occiput ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 2 – 15 ) dark reddish brown, glossy, pubescence silver along margin of eye; setae white, elongate. Thorax. Macrosetae 2 np, 0 dc. Mesonotum black, dorsocentral vitta present as gray pubescent band; setae black, short. Pleuron dark reddish brown, pubescence whitish gray, anepisternum and anepimeron glossy; setae white to pale yellow, elongate on anepisternum, katepisternum (1–2 dorsally), laterotergite, and black, short on scutellum. Wing. Membrane hyaline; length 2.5–3.5, 3.1 mm, width 1.0–1.2, 1.0 mm, length/width 2.5– 3.3, 3.0. M1 and M2 originate separately from discal cell, M2 reaching wing margin. Halter stalk and dorsal surface of knob dark brown, ventral surface of knob pale yellow. Legs. Dark reddish brown, concolorous, pubescence on coxae and femora white, dense. Abdomen. Dark reddish brown, glossy, tergites 1–4 with narrow, white posterior margin; dorsal setae black, short, appressed, lateral setae white, erect. Terminalia (MEI 124847) dark brown. Sternite 8 ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 32 – 35 ), posterior margin rounded; setae dark brown in broad band across posterior margin. Gonocoxite ventral view ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 32 – 35 ), quadrate, extending posterolaterally as narrow projection, setae brown; lateral view (as in Fig. 24), posteroventral projection absent. Aedeagus with distiphallus lateral view ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 32 – 35 ) thick, apex short, sinuate; ejaculatory apodeme lateral view ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 32 – 35 ) clavate anteriorly.
