Spogostylum hamadnallahi ElHawagry View in CoL , sp. nov.
This robust species is distinguishable by the heavy yellowish tomentum on dorsal surface of thorax and abdomen and by the color composition of hairs and scales on the abdomen.
Description:
Holotype (female); body length: about 12 mm. Wing length: 13 mm.
Head. Black, white or grayish dusted at least along inner eye borders, with yellowish color encircling bases of antennae. Frons covered with black hairs and shorter yellowish and whitish narrow scales. Face brownish black, densely covered with long black hairs, and yellowish and whitish scalyhairs. Vertex twice width of ocellar tubercle. Antennae dark brown to black, grayish dusted; scape with many long yellowish hairs intermixed with black ones. Occiput gray dusted, with fine black hairs intermixed with fine yellowish scalyhairs; with a long dense whitish frill on margin of occipital cavity. Thorax. Dull black. Extreme anterior margin and sides of anterior half of mesonotum with tufts of long white and yellowishwhite hairs mixed with long black ones. Mesonotum and scutellum covered with yellowish tomentum composed of fine scalyhairs, mixed with short black hairs. Bristles black. Wings (fig. 8). Smoky, with basal half and anterior part darker than the rest. Areas around crossveins appear darker, spotlike. Plumula white. Halteres brownishyellow with paler tips. Legs. Brownishblack, covered with short white scales. Abdomen. Dull black, covered with a yellowish tomentum composed of fine scalyhairs, mixed with longer black hairs. 1st tergite with long yellowishwhite hairs directed backward reaching 2/3 the 2nd tergite. Sides of tergites densely tufted with long hairs, being white on sides of 1st tergite, yellow or yellowishbrown on sides of 2nd tergite, black mixed with some yellowish on sides of the remainder tergites. Posterolateral margins of tergites 24 with pure white scales forming transverse bands.
Spermatheca (fig. 9): The spermathecal duct elarged at its anterior portion.
Male: unknown.
Material examined: Holotype (female): W. Garagneyia (South Sinai), VIVIII. 1942. [ EFC]. Paratypes: 2 females: same data as Holotype, [ EFC]. 2 females, same data as Holotype, [ESC].
Derivatio nominis: A patronymic name ( S. hamadnallahi ) is proposed in honor of my dear friend Prof. Dr Hassan Hamadnallah, Prof. of insect taxonomy, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt.
