REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 227) described Sphixapata maculosa without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths, from material he had collected and also received from F.M. Piccioli. Pape (1988: 10) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (1 ♂, 3 ♀♀, one of which is labeled “722 / Sphixapata Rndn. maculosa Rnd. / German. 5.77” and if “German.” means “ Germany ” it did not belong to the type series), but did not mention an additional five specimens: one male and one female in the MZUF, one male and one female in the MSNC, and one female in the MZUB (all are paralectotypes).
