ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1873e: 285.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Keren [Keren ( Eritrea)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype ( MSNG): Bogos 1870, Keren, O. Beccari / Typus / cuprinitens Rond. , ♂ / Somomyia cuprinitens ♂.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Chrysomya chloropyga Wiedemann, 1818 ( Pont 1980b: 789) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1873c: 285) described Somomyia cuprinitens from just the male sex, giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by O. Beccari and O. Antinori. Guiglia (1957: 196) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 33) reported the holotype (♂) in the MSNG. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Somomyia , which is “an unjustified emendation of Somomya Bertoloni, 1861 ” (O’Hara et. al. 2011: 166).
