ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 29.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Amer. Merid. [ South America ]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, unplaced to genus of Calliphoridae ( James 1970:16) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 29) described Somomya transmarina , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from M. Spinola. We were unable to locate any type material of this nominal species in our study. Under the name Somomya transmarina Costa (1866: 33) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “702” and labeled Labrador, which is not the type locality. We found this latter specimen in the MZUN.
