ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 28.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Amer. Meridion. [ South America ]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (not a female as Rondani reported; covered with mold) ( MZUN: Box Muscidae M02,15) : Somomyia [sic!] acutangula Rnd., Am. mer. [= South America ] / M. Zool. N° 11397 / ♂ .
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, unplaced to genus of Calliphoridae ( James 1970: 15) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 28) described Somomya acutangula from just the female sex without giving any measurement of length, from material received from G. Genè. Costa (1866: 33) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “696”. We also found one syntype in this study.
