Type (holotype, LE):— MONGOLIA: “МонголиЯ, Южно- Гобийский аймак, Xонгор сомон, Сев. бЭль хр. Гурбан- Сайхан по дороге иЗ Баин- Далай сомона в Далан- ДЗадагад. КовыльковаЯ пустыннаЯ степь (горный вариант). 6 V 1941 [цв., плоды прошлого года], № 4963, А. А. Юнатов”. Translation: “Mongolia, South Gobi aimag [Mongolian name of the province— Өмнөговь аймаг, Ömnögovǐ aimag], Khongor sum [Mongolian name of the district—Хан хонгор сум], northern foothills of the Gurvan Saikhan Ridge [in Mongolian—Гурван Сайхан Уул] on the road from Bayandalai sum [in Mongolian—БаЯндалай сум] to Dalanzadgad [in Mongolian—ДаланЗадгад]. Feathergrass [ Ptilagrostis ] desert steppe (mountain variant). 6 May 1941, [fl., last-year fr.—note probably added by Grubov] A. Yunatov 4963”.According to the protologue: “Altai Gobicus, jugum Gurban-Saichan, in promontoriis borealibus apud viam in Dalan-Dzadagad, in steppa deserta stipacea, 6 V 1941, fl. (fr.), no. 4963, А. Junatov”.

This species differs from S. adpressa in having 4- or 5-merous flowers, white petals, leaves appressed sericeous on both surfaces ( Grubov 1955; Li et al. 2003), and the chromosome number 2n=14 ( Měsíček & Soják 1969, reported as Sibbaldia sericea ). It is known at present from Mongolia and northern China (Nei Mongol) ( Grubov 1955, 1982; Gubanov 1996; Li et al. 2003; Urgamal et al. 2014).
