Type :— ECUADOR. ‘ In monte Autisana in sabulosis’ [1843, K. T. Hartweg 1132] (holotype: K 000959681 !; isotype: LD 1227493 !). Fig. 10

Senecio repens Candolle (1838: 423) nom. illeg., non Stokes (1812: 216). Cacalia humilis Kunth (1820: 166) , non S. humilis Desfontaine 1799 . Type:— ECUADOR. ‘Crescit inter Los Paredones et Turche, in Andibus Quitensium (Páramo de Assuay), alt. 1700 hex.’ [F.W.H.A. Humboldt & A.J.A.Bonpland 3258] (holotype: P 00320230!).

Senecio rhizocephalus Turczaninow (1851: 210) . Type:— ECUADOR. Quito. Jameson coll. n. 72 (lectotype KW 001001534 !, designated here; isolectotypes: TCD 0006385 !, TCD 0006397 !, US 01837167!).

Distribution and Habitat ( Fig. 5 ): — Senecio hyoseridis occurs in the high Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, at elevations of 3800–4500 m.

Note: — In the protologue of Senecio rhizocephalus two syntypes are cited: “ Quito. Jameson coll. n. 72 Specimen e [ Colombia] Nova Granada, provincia Mariquita, alt. 2300 hexapod. A cl. Linden sub. n. 941 distributum, ad eandem speciem pertine”. We found a sheet located in KW herbarium, where two specimens are mounted, one corresponding to Jameson 72, KW 001001534 , and another corresponding to Linden 941 collection, KW 001001533 , and two sheets in TCD herbarium ; one of them is Jameson 72 ( TCD 0006385 ) collection, and in the second one there are two specimens mounted, one corresponding to Jameson 72 ( TCD 0,006,397) and the other to a general collection (Spruce 5598, TCD 0006398 ). Specimen KW 001001534 is designated as lectotype because it is the specimen that best represents the species .
