Scymnus (Pullus) kansanus Casey, 1899 Figs. 5–7 View Figs
Scymnus (Pullus) kansanus Casey 1899: 142 . Leng 1920: 213. Korschefsky 1931: 160. Wingo 1952: 28–29. Gordon 1976: 78. Gordon 1985: 162.
Diagnosis: Length 1.7 to 2.2 mm; width 1.2 to 1.5 mm. Dorsal color black, except head, pronotum and posterior margin of elytra yellow to orange; ventral color black, except legs, antennae, mouthparts and last three ventrites yellow or orange. Males with first ventrite unmodified; fifth ventrite centrally depressed on apical half, not emarginate; sixth ventrite depressed on central part, not emarginate.Male genitalia with long, narrow parameres ( Fig. 6 View Figs ); penis guide with apex not elongate or narrowed ( Fig. 5 View Figs ).
Material Examined: More than 30 specimens. TAMAULIPAS: (8♀, 16♂) Jaumave ( FIC), (1♀, 6♂) Reserva de la Biosfera “El Cielo” ( FIC) .
Distribution: North America ( Gordon 1976, 1985). New record for Mexico.
Biology: This species has been collected in Mexico at elevations between 600 and 1,800 m, and in the biomes of high evergreen forest, mesophilic forest and oak forest.
Discussion: The male genitalia of the Mexican specimens are somewhat different from those described by Gordon (1976): the penis guide of the specimens studied is almost as long as the parameres, and these have a tuft of long setae on the inferior margin, resembling a single long, coarse bristle.
