Material examined. Holotype. 3. Type locality not stated, but probably GERMANY: “ Sciophila fimbriata Meigen : fimbriata Meigen , o. Mycomyia fimbriata Mg. –affinis Staeg. F. W. Edwards det. 1922” (in MNH). Other material. MYANMAR, Kambaiti, 2000 m, 23.V. 1934, Malaise, 1 3 (in MZH).

Description. 3 (from Myanmar). Head. Palp, other mouthparts and face brownish to brown, posterior parts of head brown. Antenna brownish to brown, scape, pedicel and base of 1st flagellomere yellow. Length of 1st flagellomere about 2x, 2nd flagellomere 1.5x, its width. Thorax. Pronotum yellow, with 3 long setae. Scutum yellow to yellowish. Anepisternum and preepisternum yellow. Scutellum light brownish, with 4 long setae. Laterotergite yellowish to light brownish. Mediotergite light brownish, bare. Wing. Length 3.5 mm (Holarctic specimens 2.8–4.0 mm). Wing hyaline. Sc ending in R1 distad of middle of small cell, Sc1 missing. Apical part of Sc bearing 18 small setae. Small cell about 2.5x as long as wide. Cu fork distinctly distal to M fork. M ratios: 0.82, 1.03. Cu ratios: 0.83, 1.44. Small setae: M petiole: 0; M1: +; M2: +; Cu petiole: +; Cu1: +; Cu2: +. Halter yellowish. Legs. Coxae and femora yellow, tibiae and tarsi brownish to brown. Coxa 2 without spur. Leg ratios: bt1:t1 = 0.84, bt2:t2 = 0.68, bt3:t3 =?. Abdomen. Tergites 1–5 yellow, with widely brown posterior margins and brown dorsomedial line, 6–7 brownish to brown. Sternites 1–5 yellow, 6–7 brownish. Hypopygium. Figs. 8 A–E, yellowish. Tergite 9 with 2 pairs of dark cones, large submedial lobes ( Fig. 8 A) and small lateral appendages ( Fig. 8 C). Sternal synsclerite deeply emarginate, with specialized appendages ( Fig. 8 B).

Discussion. Mycomya fimbriata is distributed throughout the Holarctic region. It has probably also been reported from India as M. flavithorax (Brunetti 1912, Edwards 1924). M. flavithorax Brunetti, 1912 was described from Darjeeling though the holotype was not studied here. It is a male in poor condition and possibly deposited in Calcutta (see Väisänen 1996). The female of M. fimbriata was described by Väisänen (1984: 295, figs. 960–961). Santini (1986) has described the biology of M. fimbriata in Italy.
