Remarks.—In view of the close relationships between Angulaticeras and Phricodoceras with A. spinosus as a convincing intermediate form, it appears convenient to include Phricodoceras in the Schlotheimiidae and to abandon the subfamily and family terms Phricododeratinae and Phricodoceratidae . This classification has already been adopted by Meister et al. (2011). Its main advantage is that it is readily supported by the comparative anatomy within the Psiloceratoidea and is founded on an odd morpho−ornamental feature (i.e., the “ Phricodoceras habitus”) the complexity of which greatly reduces the risk of convergences.
