ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 111.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ insula Melita [ Malta Island]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (missing right fore-leg) ( MZUF: Box 16): Schembria Rnd. / meridionalis Schembri / 851.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 235, Cerretti 2010: 250, O’Hara et al. 2020: 507).

REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 111) described Schembria meridionalis from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Foeminam tantum observavi a D. Schembri missam [I observed only the female sent by Mr. Schembri]”. We found one syntype in this study.
