REMARKS: Rondani (1861g: 391) described Sarcophaga amita from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. In his redescription Rondani (1862d: 122) specified having had more than one male: “ Marem legi in collibus, et alium in Apenino agri parmensis [I collected the male on hills, and once on the Parmese Apennines]”. Pape (1988: 6) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (2 ♂♂) but did not mention an additional male in the OUMNH and one male in the MSNC (both of these additional specimens are paralectotypes).
