ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 36.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Cap. B. Spei [Cape of Good Hope ( South Africa)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (very moldy) ( MZUN: Box Antomidei A 02, 01): Polinomia afra [sic!] Rnd., C. B. Sp. [= Caput Bonae Spei (Cape of Good Hope )] / M. Zool. N° 11425 .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Miller 1980: 607).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 36) described Sapromyza affra from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from M. Spinola. Costa (1866: 34) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “725”. We also found one syntype in this study.
