TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae (Borneo) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island , Sarawak Province, Borneo]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421) .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MSNG): Borneo, Sarawak, 1865/1866, Coll. Doria / Typus / indica Rond. / Rhynchomyia indica n° 9.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, unplaced to genus in Rhiniidae ( James 1977: 536) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 424) described Rhynchomyia indica from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 196) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 33) reported the holotype (♂) in the MSNG. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Rhynchomyia ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Rhyncomya Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 or subsequent usage of Rhynchomyia Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 159).
