NOTE: Lombardini (1962) described a small variety of this species from Italy, as " Rhodacarus strenzkei Willmann var. strictior n. var. ". The name strictior is not available from this paper, because it is infrasubspecific (International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, Articles 15.2 and 45.6.3). It has not been used by later authors, so it remains unavailable.
