Diagnosis. This species looks somewhat similar to P. sarcogypsa , but can be separated from it by the forewing ochreous yellow mottled silvery white lines ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 a); in male genitalia, the valvae lack the basal lobes, and the manica is narrowed distally, with a truncate apex ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 b); in female genitalia, the signa consist of a pair of sclerotized carinae of irregular shape ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 c). In P. sarcogypsa (Meyrick) , the male valvae bear setose basal lobes and the female signa consist of paired rows of densely compact spines of similar shape and size.
Distribution. New to China (Xinjiang); also in Middle Asia, Southern and Central Europe, North Africa ( Riedl 1969; Koster & Sinev 2003).
Hostplants. Asteraceae : Carlina spp., Centaurea spp., Carduus spp., Cnicus benedictus L., Scolymus hispanicus L., Carthamus lanatus L. and C. tinctorius L., Pycnomon acarna (L.) ( Koster & Sinev 2003).
