REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 138) described both sexes of Ptilocheta passerinii from an unspecified number of specimens he had collected and also received from E. Bertè, G. Passerini and F.M. Piccioli. Pape (1989: 357) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (2 ♂♂, 4 ♀♀) but did not mention an additional four specimens: one female in the MZUF, one female in the MSNC and one male and one female in the MSNPV (all these additional specimens are paralectotypes). O’Hara et al. (2011: 155) considered Ptilocheta as an “unnecessary new replacement name for Ptilocera Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ”.
