Ptecticus kubani View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 15–18 View FIGURES 15 – 18 )

Type material. Holotype, male, LAOS: Phongsaly Province, Phongsaly environs, 21°41–42´N, 102°06–08´E, 1500 m, 6–17.May.2004, V. Kubáň, in MMB.

Etymology. The species is named in honour of V. Kubáň, a researcher of the Entomological Department of the National Museum, Prague, who collected the holotype in Laos.

Diagnosis. A species from the P. australis group with a black frons, vertex and occiput, a yellow thorax, straight vein M3, a hyaline postcubitus (CuP), a black hind tibia and a transversely stripped abdomen. The male terminalia are species-specific, the epandrium without surstyli.

Description. Male. Head semiglobular, deeply concave posteriorly. Frons, vertex and occiput black, ocellar tubercle prominent in lateral view. Frons relatively narrow and tapered towards frontal callus, just above it nearly linear. Frontal callus nose-like, yellow, in lateral view slightly higher than scape is long, depressed laterally. Antenna yellow, scape barely 1.5 times longer than broad at distal margin, pedicel with usual subtriangular inner prominence, flagellar complex rounded, subterminal arista brown, inserted in a small emargination. Face and proboscis yellow. Head pile mostly pale yellow, longer, erect and partly black on frons, ocellar tubercle and vertex.

Thorax yellow, only lower lateral corners of scutellum shining black, dorsum with a bronze sheen. Thoracic pile pale yellow, dense and erect on scutum and scutellum, slightly longer than scape only on anterior part of scutum. Pleural hairs inconspicuous, semi-erect to appressed, longer and erect only on propleuron and katatergite.

Wing slender and long, virtually hyaline, stigma yellow. Vein R2+3 starting at crossvein R-M, only slightly convergent to R1, crossvein M-Cu practically absent. Vein M3 paralel to M2, its apical 1/5 missing. Postcubitus (CuP) hyaline, not pigmented. Fringe of calypter as well as hairs on posttegula golden yellow. Halter black with predominantly yellow stem.

Legs mainly yellow, hind tibia completely black. Apical tarsomeres of fore and mid legs partly darkened due to predominant black hairs. Hind tarsus yellow, extreme base of basitarsus narrowly blackish and black haired. Other leg pile yellow and rather short, only posterior surface of mid femur with longer and erect hairs.

Abdomen transversely banded, black parts occupying about half length of each tergite, reaching lateral margin and leaving only narrow anterior and broader posterior parts yellow. Distal tergites more black, tergite 6 black to distal margin. Sternites 1 and 2 yellow, following sternites with similar pattern as relevant tergites.

Male terminalia ( Figs 14–18 View FIGURES 11 – 14 View FIGURES 15 – 18 ) yellow and brown, black haired. Proctiger with a large hyaline part between bases of cerci and distal margin of epandrium, cerci longer than conical proctiger between them ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 11 – 14 ). Epandrium slightly convex, without any surstyli. Genital capsule rounded, each original gonocoxite projecting distaly into dark bilobed process, inner lobe of which being much more slender than outer one ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 11 – 14 ). Gonostylus broadest in middle, gradually tapered towards distal tip. Aedeagal complex partly reduced, mainly hyaline, tapered and bicornute distally.

Length: body 14.0 mm, wing 13.5 mm.

Female. Unknown.

Remarks. This species undoubtedly belongs to the australis group and is closely related to P. subaustralis . Like this species P. kubani sp. nov. does not possess any surstyli but, on the other hand, has the well developed posterior inner lobes of gonocoxites, the small bilobate medial process at the distal margin of the genital capsule and the markedly reduced, flat and apically only bipartite aedeagal complex.

Ptecticus sarawakensis sp. nov. ( Figs 19–21 View FIGURES 19 – 21 )

Type material. Holotype male, MALAYSIA: Sarawak, Semongok, 24 km S of Kuching, Forest Reserve, 15–20.iii.1968, M.D. Delfinado, in BPBM. Paratype female: MALAYSIA: Sarawak, Gunong Matang, 120 m, 14.ix.1958 M.D. Delfinado, in BPBM.

Etymology. The species is named after Sarawak province of Malaysian Borneo where the type material was collected.

Diagnosis. A predominantly yellow species from the P. aurifer group with a yellow frons and medial occipital sclerite. The wings are mainly brown, the abdomen brown with the black apex, the hind tibia and tarsi are brown.

Description. Male. Head mainly yellow, only ocellar triangle black and area around it diffuse brown. Upper half of frontal callus white and postocular concave parts black but median occipital sclerite yellow. Frons strongly tapered towards frontal callus, about as broad as anterior ocellus at narrowest point. Frontal callus white but more yellow on lower surface, only slightly convex, in profile barely as high as pedicel is long. Antenna yellow, pedicel with usual subtringular prominence on inner side, flagellar complex rounded distally, with a distinct corner at base of arista, arista dark brown. Face, proboscis and palpus yellow. Erect hairs yellow on frons but predominantly black on ocellar triangle and vertex.

Thorax yellow, only dorsum slightly more brown due to short and dense brown pile. Hairs on pleura mainly yellow, predominantly appressed to semi-erect, anepisternum extensively bare and shining.

Wing uniformly brownish infuscated, somewhat darker in distal half beginning from middle of discal cell. Ve in R 2+3 short, arising at crossvein R-M, radial triangle (r2+3) above crossvein relatively high. Penultimate section of costa much longer than ultimate one. Crossvein R-M only slightly shorter than vein R2+3, crossvein M-Cu shorter but distinct. M3 sinuate, not paralel to M2, nearly reaching wing margin. Upper proximal margin of discal cell strongly arched, postcubitus (CuP) pigmented. Halter greyish brown, only basal half of stem yellow. Hairs on posttegula black.

Legs yellow and yellowish haired but hairs on dorsal surface of 2nd –3rd apical fore and mid tarsomeres brown. Hind tibia and hind tarsi dark and entirely black haired.

Abdomen dark brown, of same colour dorsally and ventrally, apex beginning from 5th segment black. No pattern on tergites 1–4 present.

Male genitalia ( Figs 19–21 View FIGURES 19 – 21 ): Epiproct of proctiger only narrow, cerci subtriangular, about half as long as epandrium, proctiger deeply concave on ventral surface. Genital capsule simple, subquadrate, with a small incision in middle of distal margin, gonocoxal apodeme relatively short, not reaching proximal margin of genital capsule. Cerci simply pointed apically.

Length: body 11.0 mm, wing 9.3 mm.

Female. Larger than male, wings even more intensively infuscated with brown. Frons broader than in male, about twice as broad as anterior ocellus at narrowest point, frontal index 5.2. Colour of head as in male but frontal callus pale yellow rather than white. Head pile predominantly yellow, though erect hairs on frons and predominantly dark brown and on ocellar triangle and vertex almost exclusively brownish black.

Wing intensively brown infuscated, only basal third partly paler. Legs as in male. Abdomen reddish brown on both sides of segments 1–4, rest of abdomen black. Pile mostly inconspicuous, appressed, dark brown on tergites and yellow on sternites, predominantly dark on black apical segments. Female cerci slender and long, both segments subequal, distal one almost rod-like, 6–7 times longer than broad.

Length: body 16.5 mm, wing 14.2 mm.

Remarks. The head colouring, wing venation and the male terminalia indicate a clear relationships to the aurifer group though the wings are not distinctly bicoloured but rather intensively infuscated. The male terminalia are similar especially to P. aurifer though in P. sarawakensis sp. nov. the epandrium is longer and the cerci are more triangular. The genital capsule is slightly longer and the gonostylus more acute apically in the new species.
