Paratypes: Papua New Guinea: 2 males, Madang Dist., Finisterre Mts., Moro [5° 50' S, 146° 5' E], 1692 m, 30.X.–15.XI.1964, M.E. Bacchus GoogleMaps ; 1 male, Naho River Valley, Damanti [5° 50' S, 146° 5' E], 1067 m, 2.X.1964, M.E. Bacchus GoogleMaps ; 2 males, 1 female, Naho River Valley, Budemu , 1220 m, 15–24.X.1964, M.E. Bacchus (all BMNH) .

Diagnosis. The new species comes close to P. spatula sp. n. It differs by the male cerci with the basointernal processes standing upon each other in the middle of the cercus instead of the ventral process standing closer to the base, and the apico-internal process being longer ( Figs. 183, 215, 238). The apical parts of the titillators are oval with the apex truncate instead of long-oval with the apex rounded ( Fig. 361). The female subgenital plate is split in midline by a narrow membranous zone with the resulting plates terminating into a shortly projecting, acute, latero-dorsal angle ( Figs. 437, 485). Differences to other species are outlined in the key.

Description. Fastigium verticis ( Fig. 36) before eyes 1.0– 1.1 mm, from base 1.6 mm; dorsal eye length 1.6 mm; greatest diameter of eye 1.7–1.8 mm; index fastigium verticis from base: eye length 1.0. Face rugose but shining. Tegmen surpassing apices of hind femora; gradually narrowed behind basal widening. Femora with the following number of spines on ventral margins: fore femur 6–9 external, 5–6 internal; mid femur 6–7 external, 2–3 internal near base; hind femur 8–13 external, 0–5 minute internal near base.

Male. Stridulatory file sinuate; 2.1 mm long; teeth at apex very dense and indistinct; with 80–84 teeth or 38.2–40.1 teeth per mm; in middle 30.4–32.3 teeth per mm ( Fig. 69). Mirror slightly narrowing posteriorly; little longer than wide; caudal margin oblique; 1.5 mm long 1.4 mm wide; index length:width 1.0–1.1. Tenth abdominal tergite moderately globular; apical margin shallow roundly excised in middle; little projecting on both sides ( Fig. 108). Epiproct long triangular; deeply furrowed ( Fig. 144). Paraproct with obtuse projection. Cerci cylindrical; slightly curved; with three internal projections: two in middle, one at apex; dorso-internal projection compressed, triangular with obtuse apex; ventro-internal projection small, digitiform; apicointernal projection band-shaped with nearly parallel margins, apex obtuse with spinule at tip; cercus apex proper curved dorsad, obtuse ( Figs. 183, 215, 238). Subgenital plate strongly narrowing apicad; apex deep roundly excised; carinae carrying bases of styli prolonged behind; styli small ( Fig. 282).

Titillators separate; basal parts rather broad, twisted; apical parts long-oval; surface of apical parts densely covered with clinging hairs; apico-lateral margin faintly undulate and coarsely granular. Baso-lateral sclerite curved with quadrangular hyaline appendage ( Figs. 318, 361, 405). Apico-lateral sclerites oval but curved with irregular margins, subhyaline.

Female. Tenth abdominal tergite furrowed in midline. Epiproct triangular with obtuse apex; shallowly grooved. Subgenital plate divided in midline by a narrow membranous area; resulting lateral plates with furrow at base, internal margin concave, external convex, apex spinose ( Figs. 437, 485).

Coloration. Yellowish brown. Face with black band between eyes including scapus; with a black band along clypeo-frontal suture extended on genae (missing in one male); both connected by a vertical black band widening ventrad. Pronotal disc darkened, especially in fore and hind areas; interrupted by yellowish brown circular marks. Tegmen with pattern of dark cells and light veinlets distinct. Fore tibia infumate in anterior area, especially near tympana.

Measurements (6 males, 1 female): body male 27–33, female 29; pronotum male 7.5–8.2, female 7.5; tegmen male 26–28, female 29; hind femur male 17.0–18.5, female 19; ovipositor female 19.5 mm.

Etymology. The species is used as food by the native people; local name Zugi. Named after the local name; noun in apposition.
