Pseudebenia fuscata Shima & Tachi View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 21−25 View FIGURES 21 − 25 , 37 View FIGURES 35 − 40. 35 )

Closely resembling P. fulvipalpis , but differing as follows:

Male. Fronto-orbital plate mostly dark brown, slightly paler on lower portion; parafacial, face and postorbit with dark gray or dark grayish yellow pruinosity; gena and postorbit with gray or dark gray pruinosity; antenna black; palpus black. Frons strongly narrowed on posterior 2/5; face about 3/5 as long as frons in profile, about 3/4 as wide as long at level of vibrissae; parafacial about 2/5 as wide as 1st flagellomere at middle height; 9−12 frontal setae, upper setae fine and third lowest seta strong, several strong hairs present among row of frontal setae; genal dilation with 1−2 rows of long strong hairs; antenna with pedicel bearing a long seta almost 3/4 as long as 1st flagellomere; 1st flagellomere about 4 times as long as pedicel; total width of arista including plumosity slightly narrower than 1st flagellomere. One pre- and 0−1 postsutural acrostichal setae; distance between bases of subapical scutellar setae 2.5−3 times that between basal and subapical setae of corresponding side. Wing with bend of vein M about 2 times closer to wing margin than to dm-cu crossvein. Fore tibia with 2−3 posterior setae; hind tibia with 1−2 short ventral setae. Claws and pulvilli longer than 5th tarsomere. Abdomen black, with very thin whitish pruinosity on anterolateral 1/2 of 3rd and 4th tergites. Syntergite 1+2 with 1−2 lateral marginal setae; 3rd tergite with 2−3 median discal, 1 lateral discal, and a row of marginal setae.

Male terminalia. Pregonite with apical seta about 1/3 as long as phallus; surstylus nearly straight in lateral view, only weakly narrowed posteriorly, without hair on outer surface; cerci in dorsal view weakly narrowed on apical 1/4, mid dorsal suture distinct on basal 5/6 and very narrowly separated on apical 1/6; epiphallus straight.

Female. Unknown.

Body length. 6.6−6.8 mm.

Holotype male, Mt. Jasar, 2100 m, Cameron Highlands, Malay Peninsula, Malaysia, 26.x.1991, R. Kano & K.I. Singh (NSMT).

Paratypes: 1 male, same data as holotype (BLKU); 1 male, 1 km S. Kundasang, 1530 m, Sabah, Malaysia, 27.viii.1983, G.F. Hevel & W.E. Steiner (USNM).
