Diagnosis. Pselaphomorphus macrommatus is characterized by the combination of a small body size (less than 2.0 mm); yellow coloration and large eyes (one third head width). Last five antennomeres form a clava, with antennomeres 7 to 11 at least twice times longer than wide. This species can be differentiated from P. chandleri , P. parki , P. motschulskyi and P. incorum by the shape of male genitalia: in P. m a c rom m at us the base of male genitalia is symmetrical and the entire aedeagus is shorter than 0.5 mm.
Description. Male. Body length 1.7 mm. Body flattened dorsally, yellowish to light brown, with clear pilosity. Head triangular (length 0.4 mm, width 0.3 mm), base of antennal tubercle short, not longer than diameter of eye. Longitudinal sulcus wider between eyes, spindle-shaped. Eyes round (diameter 0.1 mm). Antennal length 1.0 mm. Antennomere length as follows: 1 (0.06 mm), 2 (0.04 mm), 3 and 4 (0.04 mm), 5 (0.06 mm), 6 (0.04 mm), 7 to 10 (0.12 mm), and 11 (0.2 mm), clava conspicuous. Maxillary palpi yellowish, with short and even pilosity. Pronotum transverse (length 0.3 mm, width 0.35 mm): lateral lobes trapezoidal, basal angle round. Pronotal disc oval, longitudinal and transverse sulci wider towards edges. Elytra length 0.5 mm; width 0.6 mm. Humeral teeth present. Sutural and basal discal fovea present and evident, framed by a basal carina. Sutural stria present. Abdominal segments I–V dorsally with length as follows: 0.3, 0.1, 0.1, 0.1, 0.06 (mm). Ventrally, segment V distally round, segment VI round and depressed, pygidial suture present. Genitalia. Phallobase regular, globose and symmetrical. Median lobe short, divided into two small asymmetric arms. Accessory lobes absent ( Figs. 18 View FIGURE 18 B, 18C).
Type material. Holotype (male): “ Ecuador, Orellana, Tiputini Biological Station, Flight intercept trap H34. VII-30 to 31-2008. LSAM team” ( FMNH).
Etymology. The species name is composed of the Greak words macros (meaning ‘large’) and omma (meaning ‘eyes’) ( Brown 1956), thus referring to the characteristic large eyes of this species.
