Tribe Progryllacridini Cadena-Castañeda, 2019 View in CoL

Comments. This tribe was established in the recent monograph on the Gryllacrididae classification. It is characterized by its small-size, robust hind femur, male subgenital plate usually with a triangular prolongation on the posterior border, in the middle of the styles, ovipositor moderately thickened and, well-curved upwards (Cadena-Castañeda, 2019).

Progryllacridini is represented by three genera comprising 13 species, Karnygryllacris Cadena-Castañeda, 2019 (with seven species from Madagascar and nearby islands), Brunnergryllacris Cadena-Castañeda, 2019 (two species from West coast of Africa between Guinea and Congo) and Progryllacris Ander, 1939 (four species from Neotropics) ( Cigliano et al., 2020). The species of all these genera are long-winged, except for Progryllacris albonigra ( Karny, 1929) and a new species described here. Both differ in wing development and characters of male terminalia in contrast with the other species of the tribe. Therefore, here we describe a genus to accommodate them.
