Proboscina longipes Rondani, 1856
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 88.
TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but later (1862d: 163) added “ in apennino parmensi [ Parmese Apennines ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing right mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 11) : Rhynchista Rnd. / longipes Rnd. , ♂ / 555; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUB: Box 329) : Rostrina longipes .
CURRENT STATUS: junior [sic!] synonym of Eriothrix monticola (Egger, 1856) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 372) ; nomen oblitum, senior (but invalid) synonym of Proboscina monticola (Egger, 1856) ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 150, 2020: 140).
REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 88) key for the genus Proboscina Rondani, 1856 lists Proboscina longipes as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. We found two syntypes in this study. In his redescription of the species under the generic name Rhynchista, Rondani (1862d: 163) indicated having collected the male sex: “ marem speciei … legi [I collected … the male of the species]”. Morge (1959b: 90) listed the specimen in the MZUB under the generic name “ Rostrina ”, which is an unavailable name and treated under Rhynchista ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 200) .
