Polystichum amboroense M.Kessler & A.R.Sm., Brittonia View in CoL 57(3): 224, f. 5d. 2005.

Range: — Peru and Bolivia (CO, SC).

Ecology: —Locally common; terrestrial in disturbed humid forests forests with Weinmannia , Podocarpus rusbyi J.Buchholz & N.E.Gray , Prumnopitys exigua de Laub , and Dicksonia karsteniana (Klotzsch) T.Moore ; 1900–2500 m.

Notes: —The dark scale-centers are more clearly defined on smaller scales on the mid-petiole, while in most Polystichum species they are most visible on the largest scales at the petiolar bases. Polystichum lehmannii is similar but has smaller, duller, darker large petiolar scales, and usually fewer fimbriate scales on the rachises and costae; it is apparently not closely related. McHenry & Barrington (2014) included a specimen from Bolivia in their analysis.
