Pleopeltis fraseri (Mett. ex Kuhn) A.R.Sm., Candollea View in CoL 60(1): 281. 2005.
= Polypodium fraseri Mett. ex Kuhn, Linnaea View in CoL 36: 137. 1869.
Range: — Ecuador to Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, SC).
Ecology: —Common; epiphytic in humid forests; 1000–2300 m.
Notes: —This species tends to have broader, more crispate, pale borders on the rhizome scales than P. remota . Tryon and Stolze (1993) subsumed this under P.remota , but we believe P. fraseri is adequately distinct by the generally winged petioles and fewer, smaller scales on the blades abaxially. It is variable, with free or areolate venation and acute to broadly rounded pinna apices, but the taxonomic significance of this variation is unknown.
