Remarks. Bousquet (2018) corrected the dates of some of Olivier′ s species since only part of his work, Entomologie, ou histoire naturelle des insectes, was published in 1795 and the remainder in 1800, including Callidium spinicorne . Sallé (1856) distinguished his species, P. cribratum Sallé (known from Hispaniola) from the only other species in the genus, P. spinicorne (Olivier) , based on a trivial character of having mesal spines on antennomeres 3–6 in the former as opposed to 3–7 for the latter. As noted in Guerrero (2001), the development of the spine on antennomere 7 is variable with size, gender, and the individual. Sallé’s illustration ( Fig. 16c ) and description clearly fit within the variation of P. spinicorne . Therefore, I propose Plectrocerum cribratum as a new synonym of P. spinicorne .
