( Figs 28–30 View FIGURES 28 – 30 )

Type material. HOLOTYPE ♂, labelled: “ UZBEKISTAN, Chinaz, along Syrdarja river, 40°53'N, 68°43'E, 20.v.1989, M. Barták” ( CULSP). PARATYPES: UZBEKISTAN: 5♂, 2♀, same data as holotype (4♂, 2♀ in CULSP; 1♂ in ZIN); 1♀, Zeravshan res., deciduous wood, 39°38'N, 67°08'E, 21–22.v.1989, M. Barták ( CULSP).

Diagnosis. Black species with 1 pair of vertical setae; basal antennal segments reddish yellow, postpedicel brownish black, stylus thickened; mesoscutum microtrichose, all setae pale whitish yellow, katepisternum with small oval lustrous patch; legs yellow with short, blunt-tipped apical spur on mid tibia and long, pale posteroventral setae on mid femur.

Description. Male. Head black, rather thinly light grey microtrichose, face more silvery microtrichose. Frons » 0.05 mm broad on lower part (about as broad as pedicel) and 0.07 mm broad on upper part (at level of anterior ocellus). Face » 0.03 mm broad at middle. Gena lustrous, narrow. Antenna with both basal segments reddishyellow, postpedicel including stylus brownish-black, postpedicel 3X longer than broad, stylus thickened (nearly half as broad as pedicel) and equally long as postpedicel or slightly longer. Clypeus entirely microtrichose. Palpus broadly ovate, yellowish to brownish grey, small (about 1/3rd as long as proboscis), with one rather long yellow subterminal seta and 2–3 additional shorter setae. Ocellar setae pale, » 0.06 mm long. One pair of pale vertical setae, 0.10 mm long, widely separated (» 0.16 mm apart). Occiput with short pale setae on upper part and longer setae on lower part. Proboscis short, brownish-black. Thorax black, light grey microtrichose, with small oval lustrous patch occupying middle of anterior half of katepisternum. All setae pale, whitish yellow. Chaetotaxy: postpronotal seta long and strong; acrostichals narrowly biserial, slightly divergent, short (» 0.04 mm), about 8–10 setae per row; dorsocentrals slightly longer than acrostichals, uniserial (irregularly biserial posteriorly), 8–10 setae per row, last 2 pairs strong and long; notopleuron with 2 long setae on posterior part; 1 postalar and 1 pair of scutellar setae (with 2–4 additional small hairs). Wing clear, with yellow veins. R4+5 and M1 nearly straight and parallel apically. Crossveins broadly separated. Cu slightly recurrent to almost perpendicular and nearly straight to slightly bowed. Costal seta yellow, rather short. Squama yellow with yellow fringes, halter pale yellow. Legs yellow (including all coxae) but all tarsi more or less faintly annulated, last segment darkened on apical third. Fore femur thickened, with short pale setae both dorsally and ventrally. Fore tibia slightly thickened, short setose (lacking dark setae dorsally). Mid femur slightly narrower than fore femur, yellow posteroventral setae slightly shorter than depth of femur. Mid tibia with short, blunt, yellow (tip slightly darkened) apical spur. Hind legs thin, short pale setose. Abdomen blackish-brown, lustrous, with narrow microtrichose stripes on base of all tergites, sparsely covered with pale (whitish yellow) setae short on dorsum of tergites and somewhat longer on sides of terminal segments. Genitalia ( Figs 28–30 View FIGURES 28 – 30 ) with short digitiform cerci bearing scattered short setae, left cercus somewhat longer; left epandrial lamella ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 28 – 30 ) narrow, with apex narrowly produced and bent internally (not visible from lateral view), bearing several moderately long setae along dorsal margin on about apical 2/3rds and along ventral margin at about apical half, ventral margin more or less straight; right epandrial lamella subtriangular ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 28 – 30 ) (lateral view), with row of several long subapical setae; right surstylus small. Female. Similar to male except as follows: last two abdominal segments microtrichose. Length: body 1.7–2.4 mm, wing 1.6–1.9 mm.

Etymology. The species is named after the swollen arista (tumidus, Latin = bloated, swollen). The specific epithet should be used as a noun in apposition.

Distribution. Uzbekistan.

Remarks. The species described above is very similar to P. farabiensis Shamshev, 1998 described from Turkmenistan. The main differences are given in the key. In addition, the abdomen is more microtrichose in P. tumidiarista sp. nov. with segments 3–5 narrowly microtrichose on sides in both sexes, but entirely lustrous in P. farabiensis . Fore femur is slightly broader than mid femur in P. tumidiarista sp. nov., but slightly narrower than the mid femur in P. farabiensis .
