Biology and notes. Platycheirus chalconotus is one of the most common native species, able to inhabit both native, semi-urban and urban areas. Larvae are predators of Hemiptera , especially of the Sternorrhyncha group, such as aphids, whiteflies and scale insects (Thompson et al. 2010; López et al. 2012; Mengual et al. 2012). Considering this, the species should be studied for its potential role in biological control. Adults are frequent floral visitors to both exotic and ornamental species as well as natives. Smith-Ramírez et al. (2005, 2016) documented this flower fly species visiting the flower of the native tree Eucryphia cordifolia . Arroyo et al. (1982) found this species visited several flower species in the Andes highlands. In addition, this flower fly species been observed visiting flowers of Aeonium sp. (Rodrigo Barahona-Segovia, pers. obs.); E. pectinatus and R. raphanistrum (Gabriela Germain, CSP records); Lobularia maritima (L.) Desv. (Tabatha Carrera, CSP record); Madia sp. (Carmen Ossa, CSP record); M. domestica (Vanessa Durán, Paz Gatica, Joaquín Sepúlveda, Romina Oberti & Rodrigo Barahona-Segovia pers. obs.); Schinus polygamus (Cav.) Cabrera (César Martínez CSP record); Phacelia secunda J.F. Gmel. (Ian McLean, CSP record); Prunus spp. (Dayana Rodríguez, CSP record) and T. officinale (Ani Mari, CSP record). Type specimen probably lost.

Conservation status. LC; EOO = 568,807 km 2; AOO = 80 km 2, 17 subpopulations and 18 localities.
