Phalaena uncula Clerck, 1759 , Icones Insectorum Rariorum cum Nominibus 1: Pl. 3: 7 (Type-locality: not stated). Synonymy: Phalaena Tortrix uncana Linnaeus, 1761 ; Phalaena singularis Hufnagel, 1766 ; Tortrix unca [Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775].
Material examined. 1 male, Jiashan, Helong, Prov. Jilin, 2.viii.2000 (H.L. Han) [ NEFU]; 2 males, 1 females, Russia, Primorye territory, Gornotayezhnoe, 15–18.vi.1992 (V. Kononenko) [ IBSS]; 1 male, 1 female, Russia, Chelyabinsk district, Miass, Ilmen State res., 22–23.vi.2001 (K. Nupponen) [KN]; 1 male, 1 female, South Korea [ CIS]; genitalia prep. male S Korea, HHL-416-1; female Russia, Primorye, VK 739.
Bionomics. Hygrophilous species, inhabits wet meadows, marshes, open wet forest, bushes along rivers or banks. Bivoltine, the moth flies in late V–VII and again in VIII–IX. Larvae feed on Deschampsia caespitosa , Phalaris arundinacea (Poaceae) , Carex and Cyperus (Cyperaceae) . Overwinters as pupa.
Distribution. Eurasian, subboreal. North China (Provinces Heilongjiang, Jilin).—Europe, Central Asia, Russia to Ural, through Siberia to the Far East, Sakhalin and Kuriles, Korea, Japan (Hokkaido, Honhsu).
