Petrosedum ×bellardii Gallo View in CoL nom. nov.

Replaced name: Sedum × nicaeense Allioni (1785: 122) (pro sp.).

Type:―(Lectotype designated by Gallo 2008: 170)— Sedum nicaeense N. It. Nic. Nascitur in scopulosis prope Savorgio [Saorge, Vallée de la Roya], s.d., s.c. (Herb. Bellardi, TO).

Comments: ― Sedum × nicaeense is the correct name for the hybrid between S. rupestre Linnaeus (1753: 431) and S. sediforme ( Jacquin, 1770: 35) Pau (1909: 246) which predates S. ×luteolum Chaboisseau (1863: 296) ( Gallo, 2008, 2012). Afferni (2015) proposed a new combination in Petrosedum ( Petrosedum ×nicaeense ). The name proposed by Afferni was intended by the author as a new combination, but is actually a new name based on S. ×luteolum Chaboiss. Therefore it is validly published under Art. 32.1 of ICN ( McNeill et al., 2012) but, unfortunately, it is illegitimate and superfluous according to Art. 52.1–2 and the binomial P. nicaeense is no longer usable. In order to solve this trouble created by Afferni and to treat this taxon under Petrosedum , a replacement name must be published. Here I propose P. × bellardii , dedicated to Carlo Antonio Ludovico Bellardi (1741–1826), Piedmontese botanist contemporary and co-worker of Carlo Allioni (1728–1804), which discovered this plant in the French Maritime Alps.
