Diagnosis. Male. This species is separated by having antennal segment IV fusiform its apex not acute; metasternum laterally carinate, and armed with small blunt tubercle ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 1 – 6 ); fore and middle tibiae dilated, both dorsal and ventrally; abdominal sternite III armed with large stout median tubercle, directed slightly forward ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 7 – 11 ); and genital capsule simple with posteroventral edge straight, slightly produced. The female has antennal segment IV fusiform its apex not acute; metasternum unarmed; fore and middle tibiae dorsally dilated, ventrally straight; and abdominal sternite III unarmed.
Type locality. AFRICA: SOUTH AFRICA: Port Natal.
Distribution. This is the commonest of the five known species of Petascelis and has been recorded from Democratic Republic of Congo (Abok, Dilolo, Elizabethville, Funda Biabo, Gingungi, Iswa, Kalassa, Kapanga, Kansenia, Kundelungu, Luashi, Niarembe, between Pweto and Kasenga, and Sandoa), Namibia (Damaraland, Windhoeck, Otavi), Ruanda-Urundi, Somalia (Baidoa, Ola Uageer), South Africa ( Natal, Transvaal), Sudan (Equatoria: Kagelu, Kajo Kajiand Lakadu) and Tanzania (Kilimandjaro: Kibonoto and Meru) ( Blöte 1938, Hesse 1925, Linnavuori 1978, Linnavuori 1982, Schouteden 1913, Schouteden 1938, Schouteden 1957, and Signoret 1847).

MALAWI: 1 male, Mzimbe District, 4 km NNW Mzuzu, 22-26-XII-1988, M. Chirwa ( UNAM). ZIMBABWE: 3 males, Mt. Selinda, 2300 m, XII-1929, R. and L. Boulton ( CMNH). SOUTH AFRICA: 1 male, Johanesburg, E. Belford Ridge, 17-III-1948, A. L. Capener ( JASC); 1 female, Transvaal, Pretoria, 25°45’S- 28°12’E, 12-X-1981, C. G.
