ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865a: 135.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Alpibus [Alps]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Chamaesyrphus scaevoides ( Fallén, 1817) ( Peck 1988: 95, Belcari et al. 1995a: 11).

REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 135) described Pelecocera quadricincta , without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from S. Bertolini, to whom he attributed the species name. We could not locate any type specimens of this nominal species during our study.
