Range: —Florida; Greater Antilles; central Mexico to Ecuador and Brazil; Bolivia (SC).
Ecology: —Rare, known from a single Bolivian collection, with the identity needing verification: Herzog 1496 (S); on rocks, less commonly terrestrial or epiphytic in humid forests; to 2000 m.
Notes: —This is an apogamous triploid species with P. atra (A.M.Evans) M.G.Price ( Mexico to Nicaragua) and P. plumula as parental taxa ( Evans 1969).
